Contribution of medications from the Federative Republic of Brazil

On Friday, July 25, 2025, His Excellency Colbert Soares Pinto Junior, Resident Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Saint Lucia, officially handed over a donation of 400 cases of Levetiracetam, 179 cases of Deferasirox, and 167 cases of Revistagmine tablets, to the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs. These lifesaving medications are used in the treatment of serious illnesses such as epilepsy and seizures, iron overload in the blood after blood transfusion and dementia.

This timely donation is one which supports the Government of Saint Lucia’s mission to provide quality care to individuals, families and communities. It also reinforces ongoing efforts by the Government of Saint Lucia, to enhance healthcare for all citizens, in alignment with the Government’s broader vision for Universal Health Coverage, thereby ensuring that no one is left behind.

The Ministry of External Affairs, International Trade, Civil Aviation and Diaspora Affairs played a vital role in securing this support, leveraging diplomatic engagement to advance Saint Lucia’s national development objectives. The successful collaboration with the Federative Republic of Brazil is a testament to the power of diplomacy in addressing critical public health challenges.

This handover further reflects the enduring friendship between the Governments of Saint Lucia and the Federative Republic of Brazil, as well as Brazil’s continued commitment to South-South cooperation, a key mechanism in advancing the global goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being.
