On Tuesday April 18th 2023, United Nation’s Resident Coordinator for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Mr. Didier Trebucq, paid a courtesy call to Honourable Alva Baptiste, Minister for External Affairs, International Trade, Civil Aviation and Diaspora Affairs. The engagement encompassed discussions centered on security and climate change matters in keeping with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Mr. Trebucq reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to assisting Saint Lucia in achieving its development goals and informed the Minister of the organisation’s current mandate. Minister Baptiste highlighted Saint Lucia’s key priority areas and called for a more tailored approach from the UN in addressing not only Saint Lucia’s challenges and needs but that of the wider Caribbean region and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
Other officials present at the meeting were Dr. Lorraine Nicholas, UN Country Coordination Officer for Saint Lucia, Mr. Kenroy Emery Roach, Team Leader and Senior Development Officer, UN Office Barbados, Mr. Augustus Cadette, Permanent Secretary, Ms. Nancy Nicholas, Senior Foreign Service Officer and Head of the Political and Economic Division and Ms. Rovin Fevrier, Foreign Service Officer.
Mr. Trebucq, is expected to meet with other government agencies during the course of his official visit in Saint Lucia.
